In the late 1950's researchers at Texas A&M University developed recommendations
for athletic field construction. In the early 1970's, Dr. Brown and Mr.
Thomas conducted USGA funded research on the greens recommendations. They
also were in charge of the USGA Greens Section Soil Testing Laboratory
at Texas A&M University. When Texas A&M discontinued the service, Dr.
Brown opened a lab to continue serving the turf industry. In
1992, the Turf Services Division was purchased by Mr. Thomas and
incorporated as Thomas Turf Services, Inc. In July 1996, Thomas Turf
Services was the second laboratory to be accredited in the nation by
the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for the
geotechnical evaluation of putting green materials. Mr. Thomas has
provided soil testing, turf management, and greens mix design to
clients world wide for over 30 years. To better serve our clients,
a sister company, Thomas Analytical Services, was formed in 1999.
